Professional Development: Cornell University

A Message from CEO Lindsey Ueberroth

As this pandemic goes into the recovery phase, I think we would all agree that re-thinking how we learn and develop has become a top priority.

In this new era of business and life, professional development and associate education programs will go a long way towards strengthening our organizations for whatever the future may hold. To attract, retain, and reward associates, our businesses need to identify the delicate balance between traditional, targeted training for just-in-time learning (i.e. on-the-job training) and training that allows associates to grow and achieve their career ambitions in the long term.

Associate training and development programs improve performance by strengthening associates' job-specific and general professional skills. The benefits of ongoing development and training include improved morale, retention, increased associate independence, and workplace efficiency. For this reason – and many others – a commitment to engineer potential and co-create brighter futures is at the heart of the Preferred Hotel Group ideology.

We are pleased to announce that Preferred Hotel Group has continued its partnership with Cornell University. Through this partnership, we are able to offer all of our member hotels across all of our brands access to Cornell’s world-class, well-designed, tailored learning and development courses – both online and in-person at the campus in Ithaca, New York – which are targeted towards mid-level and senior level associates, at a significantly reduced cost. Options include Cornell’s highly regarded General Manager’s Program and Executive Training courses, and will help strengthen leadership training skills for new managers, as well as associates in the areas of F&B operations, sustainability, and revenue management. Through this program, you will also have discounted access to the university’s acclaimed “Key Note Addresses” that feature a variety of industry discussions on trends and other issues led by a variety of acclaimed faculty and staff.

Please view all of the available courses here.

We hope you will take advantage of this valuable opportunity. If you have any questions, please reach out to Greg Smith, SVP of Human Resources for Preferred Hotel Group at gsmith@preferredhotels.com, or Jill vonHahmann, Learning Consultant of Enterprise Programs for the eCornell Office of External Education at jav89@cornell.edu.
