Advice from the Field - Operational Actions to Consider

Adopted from HOTELS Magazine

--- Consider asking staff to take vacations now in lieu of having to require non-paid leave

--- Hold fewer group meetings and use technology to let back-office staff work from home

--- Use software like WhatsApp for meetings when face-to-face isn’t completely necessary

--- Extend tier status for loyalty club members

--- Offer more flexibility with cancellation and modification policies for all non-cancellable reservations

--- Spend more time with the guests, upgrade more to engender loyalty

--- Shorten the operating hours of restaurants or reduce the number open, and consider the same for spas.

--- Band together with other local hoteliers to lobby local governments for tax holidays and relief funding to support businesses that drive local revenue

--- Move renovations forward, even close now to do so, to be better prepared when the eventual rebound transpires

--- If part of a brand or group, to improve staff morale and avoid longer layoffs, consider redeploying teams at challenged properties or hotels preparing to open

--- Reconsider outsourcing where you could give existing team members more hours as well as keep them busy

--- Develop best practices for health and safety challenges
